First Place Fencing Club was started by owner Eric Dew, with the goal of offering a fun, yet competitive, athletic opportunity for the residents of the San Francisco peninsula.
Dew, who grew up in Daly City, fell in love with fencing when he took up the sport in college. He wanted to share his passion for the sport with the youths and adults of the peninsula, and thus founded the club.
Now, First Place Fencing Club is one of the premiere clubs in the nation, headed by coach Jay Choi and assisted by coach Chris Atwood. It has now changed to become Peninsula Fencing Academy under their direction.
