Beginning classes

Virtually all of First Place Fencing Club members started through the Parks and Recreation beginning classes. First Place Fencing Club, in association with the Parks and Rec departments of Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont and Foster City, offer you a short and easy way to learn the sport. In just six weeks, you will learn all the necessary tools and fundamentals of the game to begin fencing. Of course, it’s not a simple game, and refining and practicing requires participating in the advanced programs.

Beginning classes are offered every weekday except Thursdays. Classes for youths (under 12 years of age) are in the afternoons and classes for adults (13 and older) are in the evenings.

Advanced programs

Once you have learned the basics of the game, sign up as a member of First Place Fencing Club to participate in the advanced programs. Advance programs offer conditioning and stretching, group drills, footwork drills an open bouting. You are also ready to take one-on-one lessons with the coach to refine and broaden your techniques and tactics

Advanced programs for youths are 5-7PM Monday through Thursday and 4:30-6:30PM on Friday. Adult advanced programs are 7:30-10:30PM Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8-10:30PM on Tuesday. There is also open bouting on Friday evenings from 7:30 on.

Home school programs

Home schoolers have flexible times to learn various subjects. Give your home schooled kids an exercise break during the early afternoons with a fencing class at First Place Fencing!

Moms classes

Free during the early afternoons but tired of the treadmill, stair-stepping workouts with boorish gym rats muscling in on your workout? Give fencing a try. Fencing is great for cardio workouts, balance, agility, strength training without bulking up into a Mrs. Universe. There is already a group of fencing moms in the Bay Area. Don’t be a desperate housewife, but rather a fearless one.

Corporate classes

If your company has an exercise facility and you know you don’t use it because it just too boring, then ask them to bring in a fencing class. We can teach during the noon-time hour for a great workout or for an even greater competitive experience. It’s cut-throat out there. Be prepared!
